Golden Apple Award 2015: Teacher of the Year Award

Maritime Studies and Technology teacher, Dave Forth, was named as the winner of the Golden Apple Teacher of the Year Award. We are delighted that all his excellent relation with the students and his hard work developing Maritime Studies at the Academy has been recognised. Hull Trinity House Academy reintroduced Maritime Studies after a gap of 4 years after the loss of Welton. It can be seen as the lynchpin for the academy and it is this that makes the academy unique, and is at the forefront of the academy’s plans for development. Mr Dave Forth is already looking into the future, having just introduced Maritime Studies at KS4 and developing his links with local industry and prospective employers.

Golden Apple Award 2014: Lifetime Contribution Award

Watch this video of Hull Trinity House Academy's Principal, teachers and students talking about Mr McGuigan (video made by The Hull Daily Mail).

"English teacher Steve McGuigan, of Hull Trinity House Academy, was named as the winner of our Lifetime Contribution Award. Originally from Newcastle, he came to Hull and studied English at the University of Hull before moving to the then Hull Trinity House School. He was the judges' choice for the award because of his unwavering dedication and passion. He is said to have changed hundreds of boys' lives, making a mark way beyond the classroom. He was described as "that" teacher who no one forgets. He said: "I'm proud and humbled by it. Coming in my final year of teaching it's wonderful. Just to be recognized is fantastic but to win is fantastic. Education is a great field to be in. I'm very lucky to have taught at a brilliant school and I don't think this is something I could have won without being in a great school.""
