Hull Trinity House Academy started its annual Sponsored Walk when one if its members of staff's son was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer. Dave Metcalfe used to teach Maths and Sailing. His son, Neil, was diagnosed with cancer and some specialist treatment was only available in Mexico, but it was very expensive. Students and staff arranged a sponsored walk to raise funds.
Neil Metcalf was humbled to know that over 300 people were walking for his benefit. Unfortunately, Neil passed away shortly after. However, a safety boat was purchased for Welton with the money raised.
That Legacy still lasts today, and every year Hull Trinity House Academy organises a Sponsored Walk to raise money for charity. The walk starts from the academy site on George Street and finishes at the Hessle Rugby Club. It is approximately 6 miles each way.
