Y10 students at Hull Trinity House Academy have started their Maritime Engineering course and spent a windy afternoon at Welton Waters Activity Centre getting to grips with boat handling in some challenging conditions. All went well with no students overboard – although the wind did manage to snap one of the masts!

Some choppy conditions for the students to deal with and plenty of wind to fill those sails.

As part of the course students work towards Level 2 Maritime Studies and NCFE Engineering. Along the way they will gain RYA certification in various nautical skills.

This is the first year this course has been run by the academy and students are committing to an additional lesson after school to cover the wide range of content.
